09/02/2020 – Joining the dots

H

  • Lazy start to Sunday before heading out to tackle the garden. I actually enjoy gardening, bust aspects of it seem like a chore. I'm trying to make it less so and maybe one day will given those aspects up to paying someone to do them for me.
  • Today was the lawn and driveway, trying to make it look as neat as it does when it's clean. It hadn't been done in a while so was a fair chore. Unfortunately due to the late start, the wind was not in my favour and so by the time i had finished, the leaves had started to return. You can't get too worked up over these things.
  • Had some chats with the neighbours. The new ones have had a hard run of it since moving in, the ones are only home occasionally are doing well. Nice to be surrounded by nice people.
  • Some afternoon provision hunting followed by some evening cooking, a bit of TV and then early to bed.
  • Today's song is The Missing by Deerhunter.

W

  • The Sabbath. Not the bloody one.

08/02/2020 – More time with birds

H

  • Saturday started off fairly casually with a bit of house related chores, then some breakfast and time spent out the front.
  • To my absolute joy, a kookaburra arrived for a drink, shortly followed by a juvenile kookaburra. They spoke with each other, ate, drank, and frolicked. The older bird even briefly flew off, capturing some sort of bug and returning to kill it and eat it. Very humbling to be able to witness such majestic birds in my own garden.
  • Spent the afternoon trying to watch the BBL final which was quite one sided and a bit of a let down.
  • The evening was finishing the previous night's movie and delicious bottle of red.

W

  • First day of the weekend.

06/02/2020 – Two, two day weeks

H

  • Back to work after an enjoyable day off
  • A pretty quiet day overall
  • Time to start thinking about routines and moving through the growing list of things to do to make a home
  • During a brief attempt at an afternoon nap, I drifted into a half dream where a balloon popped. The popping jolted me awake, and sadly, the nap was no more. The balloon was silver foil, and square. I don't think it was a goon bag.

W

  • Six meetings in one day. I don't think that's how the Crowded House song went.
  • That said, lots of good chats and some momentum building for the new year.

05/02/2020 – It’s no longer a dry heat

H

  • A day away from the office to reacquaint myself with my city, and show a new resident.
  • A first stop was breakfast in Guildford, followed by a train ride to the CBD to visit the Art Gallery. Some new exhibitions and viewing some classics was welcome.
  • It was so very humid.
  • A stroll from the CBD to Mt Lawley via Hyde Park gave time to gently see the inner workings of the inner suburbs, as well as resting and observing the wildlife of the park.
  • From the park, a walk up Beaufort Street gave way to some delicious beers at a few places, including a new one.
  • Dinner was had also at a new place which was very delicious.
  • A quiet evening and early night. A satisfying day, aligning well with many imagined.

W

  • Vaguely read a few emails but did nothing about them. A midweek disconnect is always welcome!

04/02/2020 – Everywhere I go, I draw heat

H

  • Hottest day of the summer so far I reckon, at least for heat intensity. Just dry, baking heat. Actually not unpleasant. Unless you're outside in it. Thankfully I wasn't.
  • The heat gives an opportunity to keep the birdbaths full and this also results in more birds. Today for the first time, a kookaburra arrived. He looked very hot, and a little wary, but, eventually took a drink.
  • After finishing work slightly early, I headed to the airport to collect an important cargo.
  • Today's song is He Would Have Laughed by Deerhunter.

W

  • Illness meant issues couldn't be addressed.
  • The day though brought more opportunity to chip away at some longterm goals. It's nice to be organised.

03/02/2020 – The Calm Before The Storm

H

  • It's a joke.
  • But having said that, tomorrow, everything changes. For the better.
  • Today was pretty quiet. I actually woke up feeling kind of terrible, but I think that's just one of those things. It got better as the day went along.
  • A quiet evening of contemplation and preparation. And keeping cool! Summer is back.
  • Today's song is an epicly long version of Broken Chairs by Built To Spill.

W

  • I don't recall being this up to date, ever. It's weird. But good. But disconcerting.
  • Tomorrow will necessitate discussions about the need for change...whether it is liked or not.

02/02/2020 – Palindromic Dates Ain’t Got Nothing On Me

H

  • I was aiming for a sleep in this morning, but Garry decided that today was the 3rd Annual Garry Makes a Shit Load of Noise and Throws Himself at The Window event day. It's funny as he was in The Tree last night and I thought we had some good chats. He was there with his partner, I guess, just chilling. I'm going to buy him some peanuts. Apparently ravens like peanuts.
  • I managed to fall back to sleep after Garry's performance and sleep through until mid morning.
  • The day was mostly a mix of relaxation and getting some chores done. I like to balance it with an hour of flight of fancy (playing games, or something interesting) interspersed with half an hour of activities. Works well for my formatted, compartmentalised mind set.
  • In the afternoon I went and bought many things for the week, including provisions for making a few meals as the cupboard (well, freezer) is bare. Whipped up an epic spag bol and saved the rest for a special night in a couple of days.
  • Had some chats this afternoon about the future and all things associated with it. It is exciting times, and I know that it's going to be great for all involved.
  • The evening was spent cooking, watering the garden, and having a couple of quiet ales.
  • I should summarise January, which was part of the intention of rebooting this thing. Perhaps a task for this week.
  • Today's song is Farewell Transmission by Songs: Ohia. I cried listening to this tonight. Sometimes a moment just grabs you and it all just has to release.

W

  • No international emails today. Thoughts towards the coming week, being up to date! (Whatever will I do with myself?)

01/02/2020 – In February We Have Titles

H

  • New month, new, uh, something. Title!
  • Saturday morning resulted in a hike, which was fantastic. I started out not really feeling it, or interested in doing it, but, persevering paid off. Through the 'hill of justice' I managed to hike the two hardest parts straight through which was a first in some time.
  • It's interesting having had a more active January, especially with the long form hikes, to notice how the body reacts. I can, through these activities, feel my body getting stronger, and more profiled, leaner. It's encouraging to keep going and, most certainly I will.
  • Saturday afternoon was fairly lazy, owing to the general inability to walk from aforementioned hike. Some lunch, from my favourite (at this time at least) Vietnamese roll vendor, watching some BBL finals, and enjoying an ale.
  • I went and grabbed a pizza from the famous Louie's in Guildford. On the one hand I respect the community they have there and will be back for it, but on the other, I'm just not sure that you get value for money. Still, it's a delicious pizza.
  • Today's song is Streetlight Blues by Squirrel Flower.

W

  • The first day of the weekend, but emails from other regions overnight to ponder.

31/01/2020

H

  • So apparently on Friday we wake up at 4:20am.
  • I'd actually gone to bed early, owing to the previous days of questionable sleep.
  • Decided to grab it by the horns and head into work early and do something with the carp, or whatever the Romans did.
  • I was pretty tired this evening after a 10+ hour day at the office and silly sleeping patterns and was enjoying a delicious nap until a French solar panel salesman knocked on my door. In my best effort at being convivial, I described to him my disinterest in his product and/or service. Having pondered murdering him on the spot, I returned to the couch but the moment was lost.
  • On a cool Perth evening, I enjoyed some beer, some wine, some cricket, and some music. The weekend looks good, with a mix of hiking, cooking, and relaxing.

W

  • I cleared all of the things. All of the to do lists hanging from last year, all of the stagnant reminders that weren't really reminding of anything now important. It's a clean slate. Now the challenge is to not let it get out of hand again.
